As we age, our skin goes through a lot of changes, be it hormonal imbalances, sun exposure, pollution, or just the natural aging process. With so many options available in the market, it can be challenging to pick the right skincare products that address your skin concerns effectively. This is where SkinMedica's new Even and Correct Line of products can come in specifically for pigmentation.   Scientifically Proven Formulations: One of the biggest reasons why the SkinMedica Even and Correct Line of products is so exciting is because of the products' unique formulations. Based on clinical studies, the Even and Correct Line of products contains a winning combination of ingredients that effectively improve the skin's texture, tone, and overall appearance. These include Vitamins C and E, niacinamide, and tranexamic acid, which reduce hyperpigmentation, even out the skin tone, and brighten the complexion.   Clinically-Tested Results: It's not enough to claim that a product is effective without any proof. The Even and Correct Line of products has undergone rigorous clinical trials that prove their efficacy. For instance, in a 12-week US-based clinical study, subjects using the products reported significant improvements in their skin complexion, with visible reductions in the appearance of dark spots. They even have the before and afters to back it up:     Vastly Improved Skin Texture and Appearance: The end goal of any skincare product is to enhance the skin's texture and appearance, and SkinMedica's Even and Correct Line of products does exactly that. The formulations target the root of skin problems, whether it's dark spots, uneven skin tone, or fine lines. Over time, the skin becomes smoother, more radiant, and visibly younger-looking. With consistent use, you'll see noticeable improvements in your skin texture and tone.   Easy-to-use and Safe: Finally, one of the most significant advantages of the Even and Correct Line of products is that they are easy to use and safe. Light Therapy: How Light Makes Right

Light Therapy: How Light Makes Right

Light is essential to plants and animals. Photo receptor cells in our retinas interact with incoming light to produce vision. Ultraviolet B light from the sun strikes our skin and causes 7-dehydrocholesterol to be converted to Vitamin D3. Plants use light energy from the sun for photosynthesis. So in this blog, I will break down how we use light energy and therapy in a dermatology setting.   What is light therapy and how does it work? Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT) (formerly known as Low-Level Light Therapy) is a form of light therapy that uses wavelengths in the visible and near-infrared spectrum to treat a variety of medical conditions such as musculoskeletal pain, osteoarthritis, and injuries. PBMT promotes wound healing and tissue repair and helps with inflammation. No negative side effects have been reported from the use of PBMT.  The red and near-infrared wavelengths of light are absorbed by the skin and trigger a cascade of events in the body which ultimately increases tissue repair and healing.   How is light therapy used in dermatology?  In dermatology, PBMT has beneficial effects on wrinkles, acne scars, hypertrophic (caused by an abnormal response to trauma or injury to the skin, not a keloid) scars, and the healing of burns. Clinical trials have shown benefits in psoriasis, acne, rosacea, and vitiligo. It has also been used as a hair growth treatment for male and female pattern hair loss. PBMT can be used to prevent as well as treat skin damage from UV radiation and to speed up the healing of the skin after laser resurfacing and surgery. Various light sources can be used to produce red and near-infrared wavelengths.  In dermatology, the use of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is very common since it is a convenient way to treat large areas of tissue.    How does light therapy work for skin rejuvenation? The LED light devices used for skin rejuvenation work by stimulating fibroblasts to produce more collagen, increase the microcirculation in the skin, and decrease apoptosis (cell death).  This boost in collagen production results in younger skin and faster healing.  The anti-inflammatory actions of PBMT help to improve acne and acne scars.   What at-home light therapy do you recommend? At SBA Dermatology & Plastic Surgery, our favorite home device for PBMT is the Omnilux Contour FACE mask. It is a hands-free, full-face coverage mask that has 13 red (633nm) and 100 infrared (830nm) LEDs. You can use it for 10 minutes three to five times a week. After a few weeks of treatment, you will notice that fine lines, pores, and texture are improved, and your skin will feel softer. With continued long-term use, you will see even more benefits. To enhance your results, use a skincare regimen incorporating active ingredients like retinol, antioxidants, peptides, growth factors, and hyaluronic acid. Our aesthetic consultants can tailor an ideal regimen to go along with your Omnilux Contour FACE mask.   We also carry the Omnilux Contour Neck & Decollete, Clear for Acne, and Men for male skin.    What at-home light therapy is good for hair growth? Just as PBMT can stimulate skin cells and result in rejuvenating effects, it can also be used to stimulate hair follicle cells to increase hair growth and treat male and female pattern hair loss. We sell the FDA-cleared LaserCap® which uses true laser diodes to illuminate the hair follicles with monochromatic red laser light at a finely-tuned wavelength and intensity to re-energize inactive hair follicles. The LaserCap has perfected the delivery of prescription-strength laser therapy for hair regrowth and comes in 3 different intensities depending on the severity of your hair loss. The LaserCap is used for 30 minutes every other day. You can wear it while you read, watch TV, or work on the computer since no goggles are required. The device can be used as a stand-alone treatment, or even better, used in combination with Nutrafol supplements, oral finasteride, topical minoxidil (Rogaine®), and in-office platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections in the scalp and/or Keravive. With any of these hair growth treatments, maintenance treatments are required to keep the regrowth you have achieved.   In conclusion Light can make right for your skin and your hair.  You can conveniently purchase any of the Omnilux Masks on our online store. Thank you so much for reading! We hope you found this blog of value. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

5 Solutions for Geting Rid of Backne

5 Solutions for Geting Rid of Backne

By: Dr. Powell The summer is the worst time to have back acne. Not only does it not look great, it can also be painful. Many people have this problem especially since it can occur at any age, not just the awkward teens. The good news is that there are effective ways to treat back acne. Here are five things to consider when thinking about treating Backne: 1. Exfoliate regularly Exfoliating is the best way to prevent back acne. Just like on your face, your back has more sebaceous glands and it produces more natural oils. Therefore, you are likely to develop body acne on your back. When you exfoliate regularly, you get rid of the dead skin cells. We carry some great options for acne cleansing here. 2. Moisturize After having a deep-cleansing wash, you should moisturize. If your skin is prone to acne, you should not skip moisturizing. Moisturizing allows your cells to turn over and not dry out. You should look for a light moisturizer that is easily absorbed and not thick and greasy. I love the Elta Skin Recovery Light Moisturizer, and if you have acne you will too!  3. Laser treatment Laser treatment for acne uses light to break up the scar tissue. The back acne treatment reduces the appearance of acne. You need to consult a dermatologist to determine if the laser treatment is for you. Laser treatment can help clear your skin. However, it will take time before you see results. You’ll also need multiple treatments to get rid of the back acne completely. The infrared light removes excess oil and treats the pimples. A board-certified dermatologist will help you choose the appropriate laser depending on the scars. LED lights get rid of breakouts and improve your skin’s texture. The LED red light also improves collagen formation. 4. Chemical peels Chemical peels can provide results in mild to moderate cases of backne. The more mild ones can do well with a medicated body wash or wipe-on pads, while the more moderate to severe cases may have to come into the office to get the appropriate chemical peel. Our providers are some of the most experienced professionals in the industry and with a quick evaluation will be able to pick the perfect peel and peel strength for you. Chemical peels contain ingredients such as alpha that works by sloughing dead surface cells. It also increases cell turnover and reveals fresh skin. When you use chemical peels, your skin can become sensitive. Therefore, it is crucial to take special care of your skin and apply sunscreen. Chemical Peels are a great way to jump start your skin both on the back or face, into a healthier direction! 5. Micro-needling This is a treatment that tricks the body into healing itself! With micro-needling, tiny needles are stamped onto your skin to stimulate the creation of (more) collagen. The needles penetrate at different levels to stimulate wound healing. We don't recommend doing micro-needling at home, not only will you need help to reach some areas, you can't get the same results that we can in office. The needling devices sold online often don't go to the depth they need to and the needles become dull quickly. So instead of micro-injuries you can do your skin a lot of harm as you almost scrape the top layer off. Ouch! It’s really is advisable to go to a dermatologist to have the procedure done, you don't want to cause scarring or pigmentation irregularities from doing it home.   For mild cases you may be able to get away with treating it at home with high-quality skincare. But, often times we can help you clear it faster if you come in for a consultation. Depending on your insurance company, it might even be covered. Call your preferred office to learn more about your options.

Introducing SkinCeuticals Tripeptide-R Neck Repair

Introducing SkinCeuticals Tripeptide-R Neck Repair

The neck is a body part that is often overlooked when it comes to taking preventative measures for the signs of aging and if ignored can absolutely reveal one’s age. Thank goodness there are products out there targeting the neck area and forgiving our missteps when we have not given it the attention it deserves. “The skin on our neck is thin and can be forgotten about when applying sunscreen,” explain Jennifer Jordan, a physician assistant at Sanova Dermatology in Austin, Texas. It is also an area that tends to show signs of aging a bit faster than the rest of our body. SkinCeuticals has formulated a product specific to the demands of the neck skin, and we at Sanova Dermatology are excited to tell you all about it. What It Does Tripeptide-R Neck Repair targets horizontal necklines, neck skin crepiness, and the elasticity that is lost as we age. These are all caused by sun exposure, “tech-neck,” which is the result of looking down on our phones or computer screens, genetics, and of course, gravity. This product can be used on the normal, oily, combination, and dry skin types. A 16-week clinical study showed Tripeptide-R Neck Repair significantly improved the signs of neck aging. Ingredients Ingredients are always an important factor to consider when it comes to what you are applying on your skin. Tripeptide-R Neck Repair is Paraben, alcohol, dye, and fragrance-free and combines a tri-functional corrective technology designed to specifically address early to advanced signs of aging in the neck. This treatment consists of 0.2% pure retinol, 2.5% tripeptide, and 5.0% glaucine complex which are full of antioxidants and collagen-building peptides, and aid in fortifying fragile neck skin. How to Apply Being applying 1-2 pumps every other night from décolleté to the jawline, massage in an upward motion, and after a week increase to nightly as tolerated. “Always wear sunscreen to reap the most benefits of this rejuvenating serum,” urges PA Jordan. Always advise with a skin-care professional as you increase application. Where Can I Get It? Tripeptide-R Neck Repair will improve fine lines and wrinkles, firm sensitive neck skin, and promote new cell growth.
